AM CB radios

The AM CB radio is the old style CB that has been around in NZ since the 60's. NZ switched to the 40ch AM & SSB CB system in the late 80's from the 11ch AM system.

NZ AM calling channel is ch15 while truckies are on ch11 (warning: ch11 language may offend some people).

UHF CB radios

UHF CB or other wise known as Personal Radio Service (PRS) was introduced into NZ in the late 90's and is aligned with Australia with similar frequencies and radio spectrum rules. Readily available in both mobile and portable radio versions.

Some channels have been set aside for repeater use which are free to use if there is one in your area.

NZ truckies are not using this type of radio but many outdoor and sport clubs are utilizing these due to the compact size and ease of access to portable low cost radios.
